Today we’ve got an author interview with Beth Pellino-Dudzic. The first two books in the Perfection Saga series, a spicy rock and roll romance, were released in 2024, and book 3 is in the works.
The Perfection Saga series has
- spice
- rock and roll
Rio and Gina Ricci will have legitimate careers—unlike the rest of the family. Sex, drugs, and rock and roll were not part of the plan, but definitely part of their destiny. After all, it’s the 70s. With the help of her cousin Rio, Gina secretly pursues her dream to be a singer—against her parents’ wishes.
Enter Trevor McNaughton, a beautiful, troubled musician. Gina brings Trevor back to her family’s gated estate, where her father tracks every move using security cameras placed throughout the grounds. Before their steamy night is over, cold, career driven Gina is in love … and insanely jealous.
Trevor falls under Gina’s spell and the couple brace themselves for the challenges of life and love on the road. But Trevor ignores Gina’s intuition about the risks to their blissful union and the success they are building together. Gina’s not sure she wants to know exactly how the family plans to help the couple and eliminate threats.
Thank you to Beth for taking the time to do this interview with us!
There are currently two books out in the Perfection Saga series. Did you always know this would be a series, or was it something that happened during the process?
Honestly, I thought I had two books and that would end the series. My Editor after Book 2 Playing High, told me to continue the story. Which was great advice, the story has now blossomed to 6 books in the series maybe more. I know exactly where I’m going, which makes the process easier. You also will get to see the story lines of the other characters.
When did you first come up with the idea for the series?
Great question, I came up with the story over 20 years ago. It was black and white vignettes played in my head. It was recurring all that time. About 3 years ago the story was coming fast in my head and thought I need to write this to get it out of my head.
This is very true. I was cleaning my house and the story started coming to me in color. Places started to take shape. I then turned on my shower and the story flowed out of me. The names of the characters. How the story started to flow. I got my laptop and starting writing and I haven’t stopped. When you have a creative side, as I do. I wanted to sing, act and never did thinking I wasn’t good enough, when you are young insecurity takes hold and holds you back. My creativity has now come forward in writing. I am thrilled.
Do you have a favourite line you'd like to share?
I have several, I have actually written 5 books for the Perfection Saga. Off the top of my head, it’s when Gina’s cousin Rio explains Gina and Trevor the two main characters, who are deeply in love. Rio tells someone, “It’s like a Fairy came and sprinkled fairy dust on the two of them. That’s how quick there love affair started.
Who would you recommend the Perfection Saga series to?
First, I need to say, there is a high sexual content, so over 18 for sure. It is a Romance Story, the two main characters are deeply in love, if you want a true romance, yes this is for you. It’s spicy as I said. It is about the Rock Scene, rock and roll and what happens, behind the scenes, pitfalls, what it takes to make it. If you love music, you will love the book. I added a playlist of songs used or that I have written at the end of every book.
I believe women, especially ages 21-65 would love this book. Wide demographic. I have insights that back it up.
Do you know what your next project will be?
Yes, I do I have actually started writing it then found out Perfection Saga was two books. It took me away from writing that story. I know how that will play out. Need to finish about 2 more books of Perfection Saga. Honestly, I have 3 different stories that need to come out. Two stories will most likely be series also.
Have you always wanted to be an author? What inspired you to start?
I never thought of myself as a writer, as I said your creative side can be pushed down so long and it finds an avenue to come out. For me now it’s writing, never expected that.
However, I am enjoying the process and bringing a great story to people.
How long have you been writing?
If I am being honest two years ago. I will have three books published in one year. It amazes me.
How much does your own life influence your work?
Another great question, the Female lead character is very much me in a lot of ways. There are certain events I place in the book that actually happened to me, conversations I had or people had with me. Her general demeanor is very much me. I tell people if you read my books and want to know if it is something I actually did, they can ask me. But the story is fiction.
What made you decide to self-publish?
I knew that the big Publishing companies do not look at first time authors. Even hiring an agent most likely won’t get you in. I did know once I started looking for a way to get my story published. Lots of self-publishing companies looking to get you to go with them, however most are frauds. They take about 15K and do nothing to promote your book.
I went to a site called the Alliance of Self Publishers and found only about 7 highly rate folks. I went with someone who is phenomenal, she also got taken by a bad self-publisher.
We built a team of folks, Editor, Proofreader, Marketing, Book Designer Artwork also does my website and a few other things. I built a team. I own everything. I met Authors who went with a little publishing company and receive very little in Royalties. I love the fact I own everything and have a team who believes in my work. Don’t think one of the big Publishers would show me that love.
Who was your biggest influence as an author?
I don’t think I had one particularly author that was an influence. I will say I do love classics. Charles Dickens was an unbelievable writer who brought stories to life. I write in that fashion. That’s the best I can offer up. I was very big in reading autobiographies. Then I started a book club and started reading ladies fiction.
If you could recommend one book aside from your own, what would it be?
Two stick out from my book club I loved Kristen Hannah, Beyond the White, takes place in Alaska. I read many Colleen Hoover books, Reminders of Him comes to mind.
What advice would you give to other writers? Is there anything you wish someone had told you?
I will tell writers, if this is your calling just write. People will tear you down, It didn’t happen to me. I received a lot of encouragement from my family, friends and my pub team. Don’t worry if you book doesn’t take off right away it’s a process. BE CAREFUL of bad self-publishing companies out there, read reviews of the company. Go on social media sites and hook up with other Authors who are going through everything you are.
Most importantly, create your book professionally. It does cost a bit of money. You need to stand out. Work with professionals. I won’t lie; it does cost money. If you want to be seen, properly use people who know.
Anything else you would like to add?
I would love people to check out my books. If anyone would like me to expand on any aspect of writing or self-publishing, I would love to talk to them. I am available to do virtual book clubs, any book signing events I would love to be invited. If there are bookstores, I would like them to consider having my book in their store. I have done over 50 Podcast love to do some Romance Podcasts. I’m currently attending two Romance Conventions and would like to attend more. Thank you for the opportunity.
